| We all know the dangers of the sun, and it will always remain a pastime for people to enjoy. What the sun can do the eyes is extremely dangerous and is often overlooked. UV rays are damaging to the retina, it can cause inflammation or premature ageing of the cornea, cataracts and irreversible ocular lesions. Infrared rays disperse the sun's heat and accentuate the effects of UV on the crystalline lens. They have a drying effect on the cornea and lead to visual fatigue. The blue light component of the visible spectrum is not easily brought into focus by the naked eye resulting in a blurred image and visual fatigue. Moreover, blue light is responsible for the dazzling effects of strong sunlight and can lead to errors in visual perception and judgement. |

| PRESCRIPTIONS For standard lenses we recommend hard coating to prevent scratching. For distance prescription a U.V. protection or anti-reflective coating. For sensitive eyes a photochromic lens. Details of which are in additions (see spectacles) or on ordering page. SUNGLASSES A good pair of sunglasses is essential for enjoying the sun. The filtering qualities of the lenses must be considered so that you have the correct type of lenses for your intended use, there is no point in buying lenses designed for high altitude if you use them for everyday urban life. |
